Prinzenpark Street Circuit – Photo Tour

Change language: Dutch (Nederlands)

A photo tour on the Prinzenpark Street Circuit in the German city of Braunschweig? This was the home of the so called  Prinzenparkrennen from 1948 up to 1951.

The start of a lap around the Prinzenpark Street Circuit

Looking back at the former site of the start/finish line, just after Marienstraße.
The start/finish straight in driving direction. The namesake park is located to the left.
Further down the main straight towards turn one.

Turn One onto Riddagshäuser Weg

Inside of turn one, turning onto Georg-Westermann-Allee (formerly Riddagshäuser Weg).
Panorama of turn one.
Outside of turn one, giving a better view of the 90 degree corner.
The beginning of the run to turn two on Georg-Westermann-Allee. The Prinzenpark is on the left.
Turn two, a left that continues on Georg-Westermann-Alle. There is a slight change of elevation here, going up.

Turn Two

Another view of turn two. The railway line on the outside leads to Braunschweig Main Station continuing to the right of this photo.
Same straight, different view. A sports stadium can be seen to the left (the Polizeistadion), also the slight curvature to the left.

Turn Three onto Ebertallee

The left turn onto Ebertallee. Riders and drivers would come towards the viewer, then turn and exit the picture to the right.
The exit of turn three.
The slightly curved straight back towards the intersection.

Into the Prinzenpark

Turning off of Ebertallee into the park itself. This part is not open for general traffic.
Looking at the entrance of the park.
The not-so-straight going past another stadium (of Freie Turner Braunschweig). The track used to be wider until they installed the running track to the left.
The left turn inside the park that leads back towards Herzogin-Elisabeth-Straße.

The final section…

After a rather fast right, we’re back on Herzogin-Elisabeth-Straße.
The turn onto Jasperallee. Note the cobblestone which most likely made up most of the original surface.
Onto the short run at Jasperallee. Not sure if they used the left or the right lane back in the day.
Left onto Wilhelm-Bode-Straße.
Another left for the short straight at Husarenstraße.
Turning back onto the main straight at Herzogin-Elisabeth-Straße. At the grassy traffic island towards the right is where the fast turn out of the park in the opposite direction used to be. In the background, the Garnisonkirche (Garrison Church) is visible.
Looking down the main straight towards start/finish.
