Zandvoort street circuit – A lap

A photo tour around the Zandvoort street circuit. Today the Dutch seaside resort Zandvoort is famous for its beach and permanent race track. But before there was also a street circuit. In this article I show you how the course look today.

The Zandvoort street circuit today

We start our tour at the old Start/Finish straight at the Van Lennepweg.

Original here was a right kink but now there’s a roundabout!

We turn right into the Nicolaas Beetslaan.

Trough the kink.

Actually, the cars didn’t drove at this part of the street but more right, where now the sidewalk and the gardens are (see picture below).

At the end we turn right into the Vondellaan.

The intersection

The intersection Vondellaan/Van Lennepweg.

We turn left at the Van Lennepweg, where the Start/Finish is, but now in the opposite direction!

This was the longest straight of the Zandvoort street circuit.

At the end of the straight is a long right-hander.

And another straight, a little shorter than the previous one.

Actually, this road was not a part of the 1939 Zandvoort street circuit. The original road (Dr. John Metzgerstraat) was a little more to the left.

We turn right into the Vondellaan. In front you see the building of the “Slotemaker Anti Slip school”.

At the begin of the Vondellaan we see on the left hand the entrance to the parking of the current Zandvoort circuit! When they planned the permanent race track they came with the idea to built a connection with the Zandvoort street circuit here. But this idea has never been implemented.

A ride through the resort…

Since 1989 this is a dead end…

Here was the old part of the Vondellaan, now a resort.

This road inside the park follows the lost part of the Vondellaan.

Here was a left corner where the gravel path is now.

The exit of the resort.

After the interruption of the bungalow park we continue at the remaining part of the Vondellaan.

At the intersection we turn left. Do you recognize this site? We have been here before this lap. But than we came from the opposite direction!

And than we’re back at Start/Finish.
